This collection includes three volumes documenting the artistic and cultural impact of the Harlem Renaissance. The first volume is Rhapsodies in Black: Art of the Harlem Renaissance, a large-format softcover exhibition catalog published in 1997 by the University of California Press in association with the Hayward Gallery and the Institute of International Visual Arts (inIVA). The catalog was edited by Joanna Skipwith, with the exhibition devised and selected by Richard J. Powell and David A. Bailey. It includes tour dates for 1997-1998 at venues including the Hayward Gallery, London, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. ISBNs 1 85332 163 X and 0-520-21268-1 are present. The second volume is Harlem Renaissance: Art of Black America, a quarto hardcover with a dust jacket published by The Studio Museum in Harlem and Harry N. Abrams, Inc. This work features an introduction by Mary Schmidt Campbell and essays by David Driskell, David Levering Lewis, and Deborah Willis Ryan. It contains 140 illustrations, including 55 plates in full color, and captures the era through the photography of James Van Der Zee and works by artists such as Aaron Douglas and Palmer Hayden. The third volume is The Harlem Renaissance: Hub of African-American Culture, 1920-1930 by Steven Watson, published by Pantheon. This hardcover with a dust jacket is part of the Circles of the Twentieth Century series. The book provides a historical overview of the period, chronicling the lives of figures such as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Duke Ellington. It is illustrated with various street maps, sociograms, and archival imagery.
