  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: Thomas D. Edwards — also known as Tom Edwards and full name Thomas Donald Edwards — was born in 1948 in Wichita, Kansas, and has been active in Killingworth, Connecticut. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a Master of Arts from Kansas State University, majoring in drawing and printmaking, and went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University School of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting and printmaking, where he was awarded the Elizabeth Canfield Hicks Honorary Award in Drawing. Edwards's work centers on the exploration of spatial volumes, drawing on experience, memory, and the reconstruction of his surroundings. His compositions are not intended to capture a single moment in time but rather to assimilate multiple moments and observations into a holistic sense of place, developed over long periods with many changes and shifts of direction. He conceives of his prints as a stage for spatial development, valuing the printmaking process for its capacity to record endless variations and changes — an approach that has also deeply influenced his drawings and paintings, leading to a hybrid visual language that integrates all three disciplines. His work has been exhibited in solo and group shows at the Jane Haslem Gallery in Washington, D.C., Prince Street Gallery and Denise Bibro Fine Art in New York, and numerous venues in Connecticut and New England, as well as at the Naestved Roennebaeksholm Art & Culture Center in Denmark. His prints and drawings are held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the National Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian Collection, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Boston Printmakers Permanent Collection, among others.
