    Other notes:
Dan Namingha (b. 1950, Hopi-Tewa) is a contemporary Native American artist working in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Born in Keams Canyon, Arizona, he studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts, the University of Kansas, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. A descendant of the celebrated Hopi-Tewa potter Nampeyo and the son of potter Dextra Quotskuyva, Namingha draws upon his cultural heritage while employing a modern visual vocabulary.

Namingha's work often incorporates geometric forms derived from Southwestern landscapes, Pueblo architecture, and Indigenous design traditions. The title of the present work, "Dualities," (1997), reflects a theme that has recurred throughout his career and was later referenced in the exhibition Dan and Arlo Namingha: A Fascination with Dualities. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, the Heard Museum, and the Museum of Northern Arizona.
