ENGLISH GEORGIAN 18K YELLOW GOLD-CASED POCKET WATCH WITH ENGRAVED PORTRAIT OF GEORGE WASHINGTON, key-wind, chain fusee movement with plain three-arm steel balance and a rose-cut diamond end cap, cock with ornate engraved decoration, having a 45.2 mm white enamel dial with Roman chapter ring, a sunk seconds subsidiary, and blued-steel hands, housed in an 18K yellow gold hunter watch case with all-over engraved designs featuring flowers and scrolling leaves, front cover with vignette probably based on the 1806 portrait of "Washington at Dorchester Heights" by Gilbert Stuart (American, 1755-1828), depicting George Washington standing next to a horse to one side and a cannon on the other side, a camp of tents are in the background, key not included. The back of the movement plate with engraved marks of "H. ROBERTO." for an unidentified maker in addition to "London" and "5453", interior case covers and cuvette each impressed with a hallmark of a crown above an "18" for 18K gold fineness, back case cover and cuvette also with incuse "G B" maker's marks probably for George Brown of London and "5453" numbers. Total weight including non-gold components but excluding dust cover 113.9 grams. Circa 1825. Case 52 mm D.

  • Condition:

    Very good overall condition with minor to more moderate wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few minute/minor dents, some minor to moderate worn spots to engraved decoration, crystal possibly replaced, hour hand with a bend, minute hand with a loss to tip. Currently running, but not timed for accuracy (see Catalogue Guarantee).
