Charles H. Jeffress
(1920-2014)
"T'àà Diné / Land of the Navaho," 1982
Screenprint in colors, blind embossing, and collage (of silver/brass/turquoise, and a feather) on Arches paper
Edition: 77/90
Signed, titled, dated, and numbered in pencil along the lower sheet edge; the Navajo version of the title printed as part of the image

  • Provenance:
    Adagio Galleries, Palm Springs, CA
Private collection, La Cañada, CA, from the above, 1985
  • Dimensions: Image/Sheet: 22.5" H x 15" W
  • Medium: Screenprint in colors, blind embossing, and collage (of silver/brass/turquoise, and a feather) on Arches paper
  • Notes:
This lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist and dated 30 July 1985 as well as a copy of the sales invoice from Adagio Galleries. In addition to the standard verifying information about this particular impression, the certificate also provides the following information: "A view of Monument Valley, Utah, on the reservation looking north toward the 'King on the throne.'... "The brass and sterling pot is a replica of a Zuni olla (1884) with a rain bird design, a spot of turquoise has been added. The pot is hand-crafted. The words are Navaho and repeat the title."
  • Condition: Overall good appearance. The full sheet with deckled edges. The collaged silver and brass relief of a Zuni olla is slightly tarnished, as predicted by the artist (see quote from artist reprinted below). The sheet is framed floating, hinged to the back mat in places from the verso of the upper sheet edge. Not examined out of the frame.

    Framed under Plexiglas: 30.625" H x 23.125" W x 0.75" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
