A square creamware earthenware tile produced by Josiah Wedgwood and Sons, Etruria, as part of the Shakespeare series. The central subject is Puck from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, rendered in a sanguine transfer-printed line drawing. The character is depicted as a winged fairy figure dancing through a landscape of tall reeds and grasses. The name PUCK is printed within a rectangular banner in the upper left corner. The tile is mounted in a dark, mitered wood frame. The reverse of the frame features a typed identification label from the California State University Northridge Libraries, which attributes the piece to Josiah Wedgwood and Sons and notes that the reverse of the tile bears the maker's mark in raised letters. Provenance is further indicated by a Shulman Collection label (No. 207) and a Rubin Collection sticker. Dimensions: 7.00"L x 7.00"W x 1.00"H
