An elegant vintage pressed amethyst glass covered butter dish complete with its original matching underplate, executed in a richly saturated purple hue and decorated throughout with an intricate Daisy & Button-inspired geometric pattern. The domed cover is crowned by a beautifully molded scalloped finial, while both the cover and base exhibit crisp starburst and faceted motifs that brilliantly refract light from every angle. The accompanying scalloped underplate echoes the same radiating star pattern, creating a cohesive and visually striking presentation. The deeply molded decoration is characteristic of quality pressed glass production and showcases the enduring appeal of late Victorian-inspired patterns that enjoyed renewed popularity throughout the twentieth century. Pressed colored glass has long been prized for its ability to combine decorative elegance with practical function, offering the brilliance of cut crystal in an accessible form. Amethyst examples remain particularly desirable for their rich jewel-like coloration and versatility within both traditional and contemporary interiors. Ideal for serving butter, cheeses, preserves, petit fours, or confections, this handsome covered dish also serves beautifully as a decorative centerpiece or display object. Whether incorporated into a collection of colored art glass or used as functional tableware, it offers timeless charm and refined visual appeal. A fine example of decorative pressed glass that will complement collections of vintage tableware, American and European art glass, or Victorian-inspired decorative arts.

  • Literature: 3Comparable examples may be found among pressed colored glass produced by companies such as Indiana Glass, L.E. Smith Glass Company, Westmoreland Glass, and Imperial Glass, all of which revived classic Victorian pressed glass patterns during the mid-twentieth century. Amethyst pressed glass remains highly collectible for its decorative appeal and richly colored presentation.
  • Circa: Mid to late 20th century, circa 1960s–1980s.
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition. The cover, base, and matching underplate appear free from visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Light surface wear and minor manufacturing variations consistent with age and normal handling. The molded decoration remains crisp, and the amethyst coloration is vibrant throughout. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition report.
