ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE AMERICAN HISTORICAL BLUE TRANSFER-PRINTED TEN-PIECE TEA SET, each featuring having dark blue transfer images of "MOUNT VERNON / the Seat of the late / GENl. WASHINGTON", depicting the first president's home and a figure with a horse in foreground and with floral borders, comprising a teapot, a creamer, a waste bowl, two sugars including one lacking a cover, and five scalloped rim cup and saucer sets. Together with two black bat-printed transfer cups with gilt accents and rims also featuring Gen. Washington at Mount Vernon. Seventeen (17) pieces total. First quarter 19th century. 6 7/8" HOA.

Catalogue Note: Each transfer image depicted on these items is after William Russell Birch's (1755-1834) work titled "Mount Vernon Seat of the late Genl. Washington."

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.
    Waste bowl: Ex-collection of Chester Creutzburg & David Martin (retains collection label).

  • Condition:

    Creamer, waste bowl, two saucers, and one bat-printed cup undamaged; remaining bat-printed cup having a faint rim crack; remaining blue transfer examples having minor to moderate imperfections including sugar cover with glued repair, one cup with moderate loss to foot ring, teapot having a crack extending across base, and others having flakes and/or minor chips to rims and/or feet.
