This pair of sterling silver spoons was produced by the Whiting Manufacturing Company in the Louis XV pattern, which was patented in 1891. The spoons are designed in the Rococo Revival style, featuring handles decorated with high-relief scrolling foliage and shell motifs at the terminals. Each spoon features a deep, round bowl suitable for bouillon, gumbo, or cream soups. The reverse of the neck is stamped with the manufacturer hallmarks for the Whiting Manufacturing Company consisting of a script letter w, a lion passant, and a letter R. This is followed by the marks STERLING and PAT. 1891. A separate incised letter M is also present on the neck. Both handles are engraved with monograms; one features an interlaced script and the other a single Old English style letter. Total weight 80g.
