LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA, AND POSSIBLY OTHER, COIN SILVER SPOONS, LOT OF SEVEN, each having a fiddle handle with pointed shoulders and a personalized engraving; comprising four pieces by Henry Silverthorn of Baltimore, MD (active 1825-1830, 1835-1837) and Lynchburg, VA (c.1831-1835, 1837-1897), consisting of a tablespoon with "SB" initials, and a set of three teaspoons with "WJLJ" initials; a small teaspoon by Williams & Victor, a partnership between Jehu Williams and John Victor, of Lynchburg (1813-1845) with a "W" initial; a salt spoon with shell bowl and "AEH" initials having mark attributed to James R. Wright of Lynchburg (1846, 1856-1869) and Lexington, VA (1847-1856), though possibly for John A. or Jotham Wright of Leesburg or John P. Wright of Lynchburg; and a dessert / soup spoon with "LPS" initials and a "J.HUNT" maker's mark possibly for John T. Hunt of Lynchburg (1816-1843) or possibly Jonathan Hunt of Bennington, VT (1795-after 1803). Each impressed to back with a maker's / retailer's mark. Total weight: 4.965 ozt. First half/mid 19th century. 4 7/8" to 8 1/2" LOA.
Literature: Hollan - Virginia Silversmiths, p. 703, mark a, p. 811, mark d, and p. 838, mark a. Ibid., p. 391, Hollan mentions a "J.HUNT" mark found on "a pair of 7-inch fiddle dessert spoons in the Ann Woods shop in Charlottesville in the early 1990s; this mark needs additional examples before being attributed to the Lynchburg silversmith."

    Mostly in good to very good overall condition with wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including nicks, and/or one or more dents to bowls; tablespoon with loss of bowl tip; Williams & Victor teaspoon with a slightly worn bowl tip.
