This lot consists of two classic scientific reference works by John Henry Comstock. The first volume is A Manual for the Study of Insects, Seventh Edition, co-authored by Anna Botsford Comstock and published by the Comstock Publishing Company in Ithaca, New York, in 1907. This octavo hardcover is bound in original blue publisher cloth with silver-toned lettering and a faded insect and floral motif on the spine. It includes several color plates, such as Plate I depicting various butterflies, as well as extensive black and white anatomical diagrams. The second volume is The Spider Book, a revised 1940 edition edited by W. J. Gertsch and published by Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc. in New York. It is bound in tan textured publisher cloth with a dark title block on the spine. This volume contains detailed classification keys and accounts of arachnids, illustrated with numerous black and white photographs and line drawings.
