Lot of four newspapers, three reporting concurrently on the initial days of the Iwo Jima landings as well as Gen. George Patton crossing the Saar into Germany, the last paper reporting on Patton's death. The papers include: the Philadelphia Daily News, Feb. 22, 1945, 28pp. folio, '40,000 MARINES CRUSHING IWO JAPS' and '3RD ARMY CROSSES SAAR', offering substantial coverage of about one page for each. WITH: the Philadelphia Record, Feb. 23, 1935, 26pp. folio, 'PATTON 18 MILES IN GERMANY', 'Marine Losses Now 90 an Hour on Iwo', more excellent coverage with the front page bearing a photo of Marines going over the top on Iwo Jima, etc. WITH: The Philadelphia Inquirer, Feb. 23, 1944, 18pp. folio, 'PATTON SURGES OVER SAAR; MARINES GRIND AHEAD ON IWO', similar coverage, again with a photo of Marines landing on Iwo Jima. WITH: The Philadelphia Inquirer, Dec. 22, 1945, 10p. folio (first section only), 'Patton Dies in Sleep; Hero to Be Buried on European Battlefield Blood Clot Fatal To Tank Strategist; Wife At His Bedside', describes Patton's last days and death due to a pulmonary embolism, with full length photo in uniform and a few more within, story incomplete due to missing section, worn at the fold.
