Excellent World War I Era 1917 Production/Shipped Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol with 117th Machine Gun Battalion Marked Holster and Factory Letter Manufactured in 1917, the included factory letter confirms this pistol's configuration, including the 5 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish, and type of grips not listed, when included in a shipment of 30 pistols of the same type sent to the H & D Folsom Arms Company in New York City, New York, on March 17, 1917. It had fixed rounded blade front and squared notch rear sights, the two-line Colt patent dates and address in two blocks followed with a Rampant Colt behind the serration on the left of the slide, the two-line caliber designation on the right of the slide, a blued barrel marked "P" on the underside with a polished chamber hood, the model designation and "C" prefix serial number on the right of the frame, along with a Colt triangle "VP" factory proof and "I" marked on the left of the trigger guard. Fitted with a smooth long trigger, checkered slide catch and safety along with a wide spur hammer, a flat smooth mainspring housing with pinned lanyard loop, a pair of "double diamond" checkered walnut grips, and a two-tone blued magazine with a pinned lanyard loop base. Also included is a "U.S." embossed and "SEARS/1917" marked M1916 leather flap holster marked "CO. C. 117 M G BN" for Company C of the U.S. 117th Machine Gun Battalion, 61st Infantry Brigade.

  • Condition: Excellent, retaining 90% plus original blue finish with some small areas of smooth grey and brown patina, some minor patches of oxidation on the forward portion of the slide, minor wear and scuffs, and clear markings. The grips are very fine with some minor compression marks in the well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. Overall a very attractive original example of a 1917 production Colt Government Model pistol with a unit marked holster and the factory letter!
