John Dadley (English, 1767-1817) after Pu-Qua (Chinese, 18th century). Hand-colored stipple engraving on paper titled A Woman Embroidering, also known as An Embroiderer. This print is Plate XLI from George Henry Masons book The Costume of China, published in London in 1799. The work depicts a Chinese woman seated at a bamboo embroidery frame working on a red textile. Inscribed Pu-Qua, Canton in the lower left margin and Dudley, London, Sculpt. in the lower right margin. Centered publication line reads Published May 4, 1799, by W. Miller, Old Bond Street, London. A distinct plate mark is present. Housed in a gilt frame with a multi-layered French mat featuring a marbled border. The reverse retains the original printed descriptive text panel and a dealer label. Dimensions: 13.00"L x 1.00"W x 16.00"H; sight size 8.5"L x 11.75"H.
