Marie Bukowski
American/Louisiana, 20th c.
"Heirloom #44"
mixed media monotype on paper
2003, pencil-signed, titled, dated and numbered "1/1" along lower edge, "Frans Masereel Centrum, Kasterlee, Belgium" blind stamp lower right, framed.

Note: "My work forms a kind of diary throughout a specific period of time, difficult or calm. They are ‘memoirs of disintegration,' but they are also a record of recovery and reconstruction after disintegration. My work is motivated by secret thoughts and private experience, some trite and banal, some complex and glorious, but all of it obsessively recorded. The secret things are the most difficult for the artist and the viewer. Perhaps, for this reason, the investigation is most rewarding." – Marie Bukowski

Marie Bukowski's impressive academic and artistic career started at Carnegie Mellon University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts, double majoring in 19th Century German Literature and Painting and double minoring in Linguistics & Rhetoric and Printmaking. She furthered her studies both domestically, receiving her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, and abroad acquiring her Certificate in Art History and Polish from the Jagiellonian University in Poland. Her works are included in public and museum collections nationally and internationally, and she has received numerous grants including one from the National Endowment for the Arts. Currently, she serves as the Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Wichita State University, and she is represented locally by Cole Pratt Gallery.
