MEISSEN COMPLETE SET OF FIVE SENSES.
Comprising five individual Meissen porcelain figures, each representing one of the five senses after the models by J.J. Kändler and J.F. Eberlein. Underside of each with blue underglaze cross swords mark and each with incised model numbers 1136, 1062, 1042, 1035, and 1051, as well as impressed numbers and painted decorator's numbers. Height 11.25 inches (28.5cm).

Provenance:
The lifetime estate collection of the late Dr. Boris Frid (1930-2017) and Dr. Germaine Frid (1932-2025) Palm Springs, California. See introduction to catalog.

  • Condition: UV black light, and close visual inspection reveal the following. Touch (depicted far left), the tip of the lobster's claw has been broken off. Taste (depicted left of center), the spoon in the putti's hand may have been broken and repaired. Hearing (depicted at center), the deer's right antler has been broken off and reattached, and the tuning knobs of the lute are absent. Smell (depicted right of center), the tips of a few flower petals have broken off, the bouquet in the vase is missing a flower, the flower in the female figures right hand has broken off and been reattached, the censer is missing part of its rope handle and may have broken off entirely and been reattached in the past. Sight (depicted far right), the tips of her big toe and second toe on the female figures left foot are absent. Additionally, the fingers of the right hand and the telescope show restoration. The rope handle of the lantern in the putti's left hand exhibits restoration. There is a build up of dust and dirt, particularly in the crevices.
