The very rare image is signed lower right front and titled lower left near the edition inscription of 20/75. Despite the stated edition of 75 prints, no record of this image being in any public collection, dealer inventory or auction catalog, currently or over the past 30-plus years, could be found. The Wichita Art Association exhibition label verso lists the edition as 75 but states 10 as the number of available, interestingly. This print is listed as number 48 in Joby Patterson, Norma Bassett Hall: Catalogue Raisonne of the Block Prints and Serigraphs (Petaluma, California: Pomegranate, 2014). The author provides that this image was exhibited at the Twelfth International Print Makers Exhibition, Print Makers Society of California, Los Angeles Museum, Mar.; 1931, Etchings of 1931; and . Arthur W. Hall, Norma B. Hall, Goodspeed's Book Shop, Boston, Oct. Collections: University of Arizona Museum of Art, Tucson. They go on to point out how the towering cloud formations and distant impressions of the desert terrain in Norma Bassett Hall's 1930s Southwest landscapes recall the atmospheric landscapes of her teacher, Ethel Louise Coe. In her painting titled Clouds, Veiled Peak, Taos, Coe treats the big sky of the American Southwest, and the monumental cloud formations of any given day, as the primary and most striking element of the composition.

Image measures 7 x 9.25, sheet is 8.5 x 10.5, and frame is 13 x 16 inches.

  • Condition: Good condition, noting a chip to the lower corner of the sheet, toning overall, light discoloration, not laid down, good margins, The greens in the image remain strong, generally good color overall.

SHIPPING: After verifying that payment has been made and or all funds have cleared, Dirk Soulis Antiques LLC DBA Soulis Auctions will, as a courtesy to the client, undertake the packing and shipping of most purchases. Large items, Furniture, International Shipments and items deemed excessively fragile by Soulis Auctions may require special handling by a third party. Soulis Auctions will coordinate with the buyer's chosen shipper in these instances and will endeavor to provide as much assistance as possible. The cost for shipping handled in-house starts at $16 per box and or the actual cost of wood crate construction, in addition to the cost of insurance and postage or carrier charges. The cost of crates range by size; the majority fall into the range of $50 to $150.

STORAGE AND CARE: All bidders agree that property left at Soulis Auctions storage facilities more than 30 days past the date of sale becomes the complete and total responsibility of the buyer. Soulis Auctions will in no way be responsible for the safety of said property, Soulis will not reimburse for any damage or loss incurred after the free 30 day storage option offered as a gesture to buyer. Any and all property passes from the care, custody and control of Soulis Auctions to seller on day 31.
