14.5 dia 11in tall An antique spun brass kettle of American origin, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. The vessel features a tapered cylindrical body with prominent horizontal lines, a characteristic feature of the metal spinning process patented by Hiram Hayden in 1851. It is constructed of brass with a rolled rim and is equipped with a sturdy wrought iron bail handle. The handle is attached to the rim via cast brass ears, which are secured with two copper rivets each. One ear is stamped with the number 14, indicating the vessel diameter in inches. While further maker marks are present below the number, they are too worn to be legible. This style of utilitarian metalware was common in the Connecticut River Valley, produced by firms such as the Ansonia Brass Company and Waterbury Brass Company. Diameter: 14 inches.
