Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Cavernas, Paracas culture., ca. 500 - 300 BCE. A lovely textile panel fragment composed of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of salmon, wheat, burgundy, emerald, and cobalt. The panel displays two identical figures, perhaps suggestive of a decapitator deity, each holding a trophy head in one hand and a ceremonial tumi in the other. Each figure is flanked by a pair of abstract zoomorphic figures, and the deities' highly-abstract heads are surrounded by a radiating corona. Mounted on a fabric-lined wooden frame. Size of frame: 7" W x 10.9" H (17.8 cm W x 27.7 cm H); Size of textile: 3.95" W x 7.95" H (10.0 cm W x 20.2 cm H)

Provenance: private Fresno, California, USA Collection; ex-Artemis Gallery, Colorado, USA; ex-private Hawaii, USA collection, purportedly acquired at Sotheby's, New York City, New York, USA, in the 1990's
