ASSORTED EARLY AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS (1800-1813), LOT OF FIVE, (1) Paulson's American Daily Advertiser, February 12, 1803, (2) Virginia Gazette and General Advertiser, March 25, 1808, (3) The Columbian, November 1, 1810, (4) New Hampshire Patriot, March 2, 1813, (5) historical reissue of the Ulster County Gazette, January 4, 1800. The papers cover the rising tensions between the United States and Great Britain leading up to the War of 1812 and the Treaty of Fort Confederation between the U.S. and the Chocktaw [sic] nation of Indians. 10 1/4" x 18" to 13 1/2" x 20 1/2" OA.
Catalogue Note: The Ulster County Gazette, January 4, 1800, has been reproduced in great numbers from as early as 1825 through the 20th century. There are only two known original copies in the Library of Congress and the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, MA. This reissue is possibly around 1876 or 1877, when a lot were printed and handed out during the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

    Papers are in good overall condition with all having some discoloration, staining and some small holes, mainly around the edges. (1) is in two separate sheets as is (3), (1) additionally has ink numbers written in on all articles and advertisements, with a smear on the front page, upper right corner.
