Excellent and Very Scarce U.S. Property Marked Remington Model 29 Slide Action Riot Shotgun An "AB" March 1933 date code is marked on the left of the matching numbered barrel. The Model 29 shotgun was introduced by Remington c. 1929-1930 as an improvement on the Model 10 now with a simplified mechanism, and was discontinued in 1933 after a short production run of approximately 38,000 made between a variety of grades, in part due to slow sales during the depression era and the introduction of the Model 31 with side ejection. How many Model 29 shotguns were produced in riot configuration is unknown, but this example is certainly rarer than many considering it is marked "U.S. PROPERTY" on the left of the receiver. This type of U.S. property marking has been witnessed on the Model 31 riot shotguns that were delivered by Remington to the U.S. government between 1940-1944 during the World War II era, indicating this shotgun may have been pulled out of storage around that time, as there was a large need for shotguns for the war effort. It features a 20 inch barrel marked "CYL" (over "MOD") for cylinder choke, with a 2 3/4 inch chamber and a bead front sight. It has a checkered walnut forearm and stock with a 14 inch length of pull.
