JAMES BARBOUR (1775-1842) SIGNED 1813 RANDOLPH CO., (NOW WEST) VIRGINIA LAND GRANT DOCUMENT, printed and manuscript on paper, granting 32 acres of land in Randolph Co., Virginia to David Frame, dated January 23, 1804. Signed by Governor James Barbour and dated August 24, 1813, with partial papered seal. Professionally matted. Dated 1804 and 1813. 12" x 15" object, 22" x 28" OA.
Catalogue Note: (1) James C. Barbour was the 18th Governor of Virginia (1812-1814), 11th Secretary of War (1825-1828), and 11th United States Minister to the United Kingdom (1828-1829). (2) Randolph Co. was one of the fifty counties that seceded from the state of Virginia and joined the Union as West Virginia on June 20, 1863.

  • Provenance:

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

    Paper is in very good condition with three horizontal folds and one vertical center fold. Some discoloration and staining mainly around the fold lines, some of the papered seal is missing with the rest having severe cracking and a metal pin through it.
