A charming pair of vintage iridescent ceramic commemorative wedding plates, each individually personalized to celebrate a marriage and decorated with raised wedding bells tied with a ribbon above an open Holy Bible. Executed in a lustrous mother-of-pearl glaze with scalloped gilt-trimmed rims, these decorative plaques embody the sentimental folk art and commemorative ceramics popular in mid-twentieth-century America. Each plate features hand-inscribed names and marriage dates alongside the biblical passage from Matthew 19:6: "What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder," creating deeply personal keepsakes intended to commemorate a couple's wedding day. One plate records the marriage of Wanda and Gerald on November 19, 1933, while the second commemorates the marriage of Fred and Virginia on April 12, 1958. The molded relief decoration of wedding bells and an open Bible, combined with the luminous iridescent finish and gold-accented edges, gives the plaques a distinctive Mid-Century aesthetic while preserving the warmth and craftsmanship associated with personalized commemorative pottery. Whether displayed individually or as a pair, they serve as evocative examples of American domestic decorative arts and family heritage pieces. An appealing pair for collectors of commemorative ceramics, folk art, wedding memorabilia, religious decorative objects, or Americana, offering both decorative appeal and historical sentiment.

  • Literature: Personalized commemorative wedding ceramics became especially popular in the United States during the mid-twentieth century. Often produced by regional ceramic studios or giftware manufacturers, these decorative plaques combined biblical verses, molded symbolic motifs such as wedding bells and Bibles, and hand-painted personalization to create lasting family heirlooms celebrating marriage.
  • Circa: Circa 1950s–1960s (commemorating marriages dated 1933 and 1958).
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition. Both plates retain their original iridescent glaze and gilt accents with light age-related wear. Minor surface scratches, occasional rubbing to the metallic trim, and expected firing irregularities are present. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs observed in the photographs. Please review all images carefully, as they form part of the condition report.
