Factory Engraved Cogswell & Harrison 16 Gauge Extra Quality Victor Ejector Assisted-Opening Double Barrel Shotgun with Case Completed circa 1901 according to page 105 of Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume One: London". The gun has blacked steel dovetail lump barrels featuring a single brass bead on the matted concave game rib which is marked with a gold "2" at the base set in scrollwork, Bond St. address and "EXTRA QUALITY VICTOR EJECTOR" markings, 2003 dated London reproof marks, choke constrictions of .002/.002 inches, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with C&H's spring driven ejectors which also act as an assisted-opening mechanism. The barrels are fitted to the brushed bright sideplated boxlock action with Scott spindle screw grip fastening of action which displays near full coverage scroll engraving around "COGSWELL & HARRISON/LTD." on either side. The gun features a single trigger and an automatic tang mounted safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". The gun is fitted with an attractively figured splinter forend with engraved iron and a round semi-pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, two stock ovals marked "G.E.T." and "T.T.", and a checkered butt. Includes a maker's wood and leather flat case with "G. E. THORNYCROFT" marked on the lid containing some cleaning tools. The identity of Thornycraft is not confirmed, though it is possible he was a member of the prominent vehicle manufacturing family. Stock measurements: 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 5 lbs. 10 oz.
