This pair of sterling silver dinner forks was produced by the Whiting Manufacturing Company in the Louis XV pattern, which was first introduced in 1891. The handles are designed in the Rococo Revival style, featuring ornate scrolling edges and a stylized shell motif at the terminal. The reverse of each handle is stamped with the manufacturer hallmark for Whiting (a griffin), followed by the material mark STERLING and the patent date PAT. 1891. Additionally, the shank is incised with the retailer mark for M.W. BEVERIDGE, a prominent china and glassware merchant active in Washington, D.C. during the late 19th century. The front terminal of each fork is engraved with an ornate three-letter script monogram, appearing to be EMR. Total weight 118g.
