Cogswell & Harrison Boxlock Double Rifle in .375 Express with Case Completed c. 1907 according to page 105 of Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume One: London". Built with blued steel dovetail barrels featuring a beaded blade fore sight, two screws securing a plate, and a rear quarter rib hosting a three-leaf (one standing, two folding) rear sight all on the solid rib which is marked "SERVICE CHARGE 40 Grs. CORDITE/270 Grs. BULLET". The barrels are marked "COGSWELL & HARRISON Ltd." and "141 NEW BOND St. & 226 STRAND LONDON" on the left and right tubes respectively, import mark on the underside, and period London proof marks for the .375 Express cartridge, a popular deer stalking cartridge of the day. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened boxlock action which is marked "COGSWELL & HARRISON Ltd." on either side and features bushed firing pins, chambers with extractors, double triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The rifle is fitted with an attractively figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend with blued iron and casehardened release and tip as well as a pistol grip stock with a traditional shadowline cheekpiece marked "199N" faintly in red and a red rubber recoil pad. Includes a maker's wood and leather flat case with initials on the lid. Length of pull 15 3/16 inches. Weight 9 lbs. 2 oz.

  • Condition: Very fine overall as professionally restored, retaining 98% of the blue and casehardened finishes with light handling evidence, some minor spotting, a few dings and scratches in the wood, repaired cracks at the stock head and right of top strap, and sharp checkering on the forend and stock. Mechanically functions. The case is fair with wear.
