Each plate features a finely detailed black transfer-printed portrait on a white ground. The first depicts King William III (Willyam Rex) in royal regalia with a scepter and the royal coat of arms. The second depicts Queen Mary II (Maria Stuard) in a similar composition with her crown and coat of arms. Both designs are based on contemporary 17th-century engravings attributed to Gaspar de Hollander, a publisher in Antwerp. The reverses are extensively marked with biographical information regarding the monarchs and their connection to the College of William and Mary. Backstamps include the Williamsburg Commemorative Ware logo, the Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston Made in England maker's mark, and a trademark for Williamsburg Restoration, Inc. Each plate also retains a small circular inventory label from the Rubin Collection.
