cf. Richard Wengenroth was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928. With degrees from Wittenberg College and Ohio Wesleyan University, the artist left for Europe under a Fulbright Scholarship. In Munich he studied at The Akademie der Bildende Künste. He also aligned himself with members of Der Zen Gruppe, and assisted the group in arranging its first American exhibition. It was said by the artist - It (art) is a metaphorical, metaphysical process of incredible complexity.

Returning to the United States in 1956, Richard Wengenroth taught painting, drawing, and modern art history at Ohio Wesleyan University, the University of Kentucky, and Bernard Baruch College of the City University of New York, where he was the Chairman of the Art Department for almost a decade.
