Lot of of WWII Nazi German Cased Medals to include 1) WWII NAZI GERMAN CASED MOTHERS CROSS IN GOLD WW2. A second pattern, two piece, die stamped tombak award with a fire gilted finish and blue and white enamel work. The award is in the form of a Christian cross in blue enamel with a white enamel border, both outlined in gold. Between each arm of the cross are five-ray projections in gold. The central circular field has a white enamel base upon which is a black static swastika, outlined in gold, and encompassed by a gold surround with the embossed Latin script, "Der Deutschen Mutter" (The German Mother). The reverse has the stamped simulated handwritten script, "16 Dezember 1938," and a facsimile of Hitlers signature. It comes with it original ribbed rayon blue and white striped ribbon. The medal is housed in the original leatherette box. Near MINT! The Mothers Cross was introduced by Adolf Hitler on December 16TH 1938 as part of a large propaganda campaign aimed at increasing the birth rate. The award was officially designated, Honor Cross of the German Mother, and was instituted in three grades to recognize and reward child bearing German females. The three grades consisted of the bronze cross for bearing four or five children, the silver cross for bearing six or seven children and the gold cross for bearing eight or more children. Criteria for the award included that the parents be of pure German blood, and that the mother was worthy of such an honor. On its introduction the cross had the impressed inscription to reverse, "Das kind adelt die Mutter", (The child ennobles the mother), but this was inexplicably changed sometime in 1939. Bestowal of the cross was accompanied by an award certificate, a cash incentive for each child born and a miniature cross for everyday wear, with the actual cross being reserved for formal or ceremonial occasions. Of Note: Members of all youth organizations were required to salute wearers of the Mothers Cross. 2) CASED TWENTY-FIVE YEAR FAITHFUL SERVICE DECORATION. A second class, die struck alloy decoration with nickel-silver plated highlights, a frosted white finish and a black enamel swastika. The decoration is in the form of a "cross Patté," with a circular oak-leaf wreath extending between the arms of the cross. The center of the cross has a square plate with a black enameled static swastika to the obverse, and the embossed Gothic script, "Für treue Dienste" (For Loyal Service), to the reverse. The arms of the cross have a slightly textured background field with a smooth, dual stepped, raised outer edge. Fed onto the ribbon suspension ring, which passes through the loop to the top of the award, is its original ribbed rayon cornflower blue ribbon, which has a brass pin-back device stitched to its reverse top. The award is housed in a red simulated leather cardboard case, with a "25" encompassed by a cogged wheel embossed in silver to its top. The red felt interior has a slotted retaining cross bar to its base to hold the award in place. 3) CASED COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL OF MARCH 13TH 1938. Silver washed, die struck alloy construction medal. The obverse of the medal features two embossed figures symbolically breaking the chains of bondage with an unfurled national flag in the background and a high relief national eagle to the bottom. The reverse features embossed Latin script to the center, "13th März 1938", encompassed by additional script, "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer". (One People, One State, One Leader). The ribbon suspension ring and medal loop are both intact and the award comes complete with its original ribbed rayon ribbon with an alloy pin back device, handstitched to the reverse top. Original case is included. The Commemorative Medal of March 13TH 1938 was instituted on May 1ST 1938 for award to civilians and military personnel who participated in the annexation of Austria into Greater Germany. This was the first of the "Anschluss", (Union, Annexation), medals, awarded for the "Flower Wars". Having been born in Austria the union of the two countries was a cornerstone in Hitlers foreign policy that was expressly forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles. Although the Germans and Austrians had signed an agreement that had guaranteed Austrian independence from Germany, on July 11TH 1936, Hitler was determined to absorb Austria into his realm and loyal Nazis within Austria did their best to disrupt the Austrian government. On February 12TH 1938 Hitler met with the Austrian Chancellor Doctor Kurt von Schuschnigg at Berchtesgaden where Hitler launched into a tirade concerning what he viewed as the Austrian problem and demanded a resolution or threatened that Austria would feel the Germans wrath by an armed invasion. The brow-beat Schuschnigg signed a new agreement with Hitler but intrigued to escape it by holding an Austrian plebiscite for the political union of the two German states, dated March 13TH 1938, in the hopes that the Austrian people would vote against the union therefore preserving Austrian independence. At the last minute with threats from Germany, the Austrian plebiscite vote was cancelled, and German troops moved in and occupied Austria. Of Note: After the Germans were established in Austria, a German sponsored plebiscite was held in which the Austrians voted with overwhelming support for the union.
