An elegant pair of American Brilliant Period (ABP) cut glass claret or water jugs, each fitted with finely crafted silverplate mounts and hinged lids, dating to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The taller example features an elaborately engraved silverplate collar with scrolling foliate decoration, a domed finial lid, and an ornate scroll handle terminating in a stylized flourish. The heavily cut conical body displays an intricate arrangement of hobstars, crosshatching, fine diamond cutting, and polished panel reserves, demonstrating the exceptional craftsmanship associated with the American Brilliant Period. The companion jug is similarly executed with a silverplate mounted neck and lid featuring a restrained ribbed design, elegant curved handle, and matching cut glass body ornamented with geometric diamonds, hobstars, and lens cutting above a flared base. The American Brilliant Period, generally spanning from approximately 1876 to 1917, represents the pinnacle of American cut glass production. Workshops such as Libbey, Hawkes, Dorflinger, J. Hoare, and Sinclaire became internationally renowned for producing deeply cut, highly polished crystal intended for affluent Victorian and Edwardian households. Silver-mounted examples such as these combined luxurious cut crystal with practical hinged mounts for serving wine, claret, water, or cordials during formal entertaining. Displaying exceptional brilliance and intricate hand-cut decoration, this attractive pair embodies the refined table service and decorative arts of America's Gilded Age and would complement collections of American Brilliant cut glass, Victorian silverplate, or elegant period dining accessories.

  • Circa: Circa 1895–1915 American Brilliant Period (ABP)
  • Condition: Overall very good antique condition. Both examples retain their original silverplate mounted lids and handles. Typical age-related surface wear, light scratches, and minor tarnish to the silverplate. The cut glass appears free of any obvious major chips or cracks visible in the provided photographs, though each piece should be examined under close inspection for the occasional minute flea bite or manufacturing irregularity consistent with age and use. Hinged lids operate as intended.
