  • Dimensions: 2.75 x 9.75 inches

  • Notes: Pavel Hlavaty, Czech painter, graphic artist and art collector, was born in 1943 near Turnov, Czech Republic. After attending grammar school for one year, he switched to the State Art School of Doctor Zdenek Nejedly, where he studied the visual arts. Until 1968, he drew drawings for the satirical magazine Dikobraz (Porcupine) and Literarny noviny (Literary News), and he wrote reports from places like Austria and Paris. After the Warsaw Pact invasion, he was punished for creating the 'anti-Soviet' exhibition Protestkresby 68 (Protest Pictures 68). He fell ill with rheumatic fever while serving punishment at the Hermanice Correctional Facility in Ostrava-Hrusov. After his release he was barred from selling his art through the state's centralized distribution system and he was not allowed to exhibit, teach, lecture, or export his works abroad, and he was blacklisted from magazines and newspapers, so he drew under various pseudonyms. With the help of friends he was eventually able to exhibit his works abroad, where he received over fifty awards and secured a living for himself.
  • Condition: Excellent condition, never mounted or pinned

All artworks are located in Regina, Saskatchewan and are available for pick-up. Also, we are currently offering free delivery in Regina on invoices over $200, and occasional delivery trips are made to Saskatoon to hand-deliver to Saskatoon home addresses for a small fee when there is sufficient demand. We can pack and ship throughout Canada and internationally, or can deliver your artworks to a recognized international shipper for them to pack and ship via their direct communications with you. For US buyers, note that all Canadian and US artworks have been proceeding as tariff exempt under the terms of the Canada-US-Mexico Free Trade Agreement, but the situation can change. Artworks with a country of origin other than Canada, US or Mexico are more likely to have a tariff fee added by US Customs.
