Desirable First Year Production Colt Model 1900 "Sight Safety" Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1900, the first year of production, this is a fine example of the highly desirable Colt Model 1900 pistol in its original "sight safety" configuration. These Model 1900 pistols were the first commercial semi-automatic pistol offered by Colt and laid the foundations for a long lineage of such sidearms, including the iconic Model 1911. When released, these pistols represented the leading edge of sidearm technology and were readily adopted by those with a desire for the most advanced firearms they could get their hands on, while others, including the U.S. military remained somewhat hesitant to move away from the tried and true revolvers of the day. The included factory letter lists the pistol in .38 caliber with a 6 inch barrel and blue finish with the grips not listed when shipped to W.S. Brown in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1900 as the only gun of its type in the shipment. The left side of the slide is marked with the two-line, two-block patent dates and address, as well as the circled Rampant Colt behind the plunge-milled serrations. The right side of the slide has the standard two-line caliber marking. The serial number is marked on the left of the frame. It is fitted with a blade front sight and the original "sight safety" notch rear sight, as well as a pair of smooth walnut grips.

The grips are also fine with a few light chips near the bottom edges and some scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent.
