Rare Documented Factory Engraved Parker Brothers AAHE Grade Double Barrel Shotgun Parker Brothers built what many would argue were the best sporting shotguns ever made in the United States, creating a lasting legacy and following that continues to this day. Parker guns were used by some of the early 20th century's top competitive shooters as well as by well-known celebrities such as Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, and Clark Gable, and were at home shooting woodcock over the back of a setter in the deep woods or at the 16 yard line at the gentleman's trap club, roles that they still fill today over 80 years after leaving production. These AAHE Grade shotguns represent some of the finest guns built in the United States, each one being a work of art unto itself, with only a total of 238 built across all configurations during the more than 40 years they were available according to page 353 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote. Today, high grade Parkers like this gun are coveted by collectors for their craftsmanship and rarity, with no collection of fine American arms complete without one. This Parker was built in 1912 and is one of just 35 guns completed in this combination of AAHE Grade, 12 gauge, 32 inch barrel length, and Whitworth Steel barrels as noted in to the chart on page 353 of "The Parker Story". The rare configuration is confirmed by serial number on page 436 of "Parker Gun Identification & Serialization" by Price and Fjestad. It has blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib which is marked "PARKER BROS. MAKER. MERIDEN. CONN. WHITWORTH STEEL.", highly attractive 2 3/4 inch wedges of floral scroll engraving at either breech, and chambers measured 2 5/8 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened size "2" boxlock action which shows off exquisitely executed intricate flowing floral scroll engraving interspersed with flowers and covering nearly the entire surface before cascading onto the trigger guard, toplever, and both tangs. The "Parker Bros" maker's mark is present on both sides of the action, and the fences display magnificent deep relief carving. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted manual safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and fully checkered splinter forend with casehardened and engraved iron and release. The shortened pistol grip stock is of the same fantastic quality and features fancy fleur-de-lis carved drop points with checkering at the stock head, fancy checkering at the wrist, a hard rubber grip cap with gold inlaid blank oval, and a Silver's type orange rubber recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both measure .732 inches; choke constriction .036/.036 inches; minimum wall thickness .024/.024 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 13 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 13 oz.
