Highly Desirable ATF Exempted Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Trapper's Carbine in .44-40 W.C.F. with 14 Inch Barrel and Violin Case Manufactured in 1907, this is a highly desirable example of a Winchester Model 1892 Trapper's carbine with a 14 inch barrel. These Trapper's carbines found significant popularity in the American West well into the 20th century among those desiring firepower in a compact package, including ranchers, farmers, homesteaders, and trappers, hence its name. These carbines often saw many years of hard use as a working gun in harsh environments, leaving any surviving examples highly sought after among collectors today. The top of the barrel has the standard two-line address and patent dates as well as the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model and trademark, while the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a pinned blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight, and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. This included 1991 dated ATF letter lists the carbine by serial number as exempted from the provisions of the National Firearms Act. Includes a black finished violin case with the interior fitted for the carbine.
