Conditions of Sale
By accepting a bidder number, placing a bid on any item, and/or being the successful, wining bidder, you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to all of the terms and conditions of the auction sale including those contained herein and any additional terms announced on the day of the sale.
We accept online, phone and absentee bids.
We reserve the right to deny bidders who do not have a physical mailing address in the United States or Canada or an APO/FPO. We regret having to do this but there have been far too many issues with international packages not being received.
All items are sold "AS IS, WHERE IS" with all faults. All sales are final! Items cannot be returned.
The successful bidder is the highest bidder acknowledged by Period Americana. In the event of any dispute between bidders, or in the event of doubt on Period Americana's part as to the validity of any bid, Period Americana will have the final discretion either to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the article in dispute. If any dispute arises after the sale, Period Americana's sale record is conclusive.
The purchaser assumes full responsibility for items at the fall of the hammer.
If we are prevented by fire, theft, or any other reason whatsoever from delivering any property to the purchaser, our liability shall be limited to the sum actually paid by the purchaser for such property.
Period Americana reserves the right to withdraw any lot at any time before the auction without liability.
Period Americana reserves the right to reject any bid not commensurate with the value of the property offered.
Unless otherwise stated, all lots have a reserve equal to 50% of the low estimate and auctions will open for bidding at an amount approximately equal to 75% of the high estimate and reduce, if necessary, from there. Period Americana reserves the right to pass lots which do not meet this reserve or to lower or remove the reserve price and accept the then-highest bid.
A range of estimates is given on each lot with a low and a high estimate. Estimates should not be relied on as a prediction of the actual selling price. Estimates are simply an opinion.
If any applicable conditions herein are not complied with by the purchaser, Period Americana at its option may either (a) cancel the sale, retaining as liquidated damages all payments made by the purchaser or (b) resell the property at public auction without reserve or minimum selling price, and the purchaser will be liable for any deficiency and costs, including handling charges, expenses of both sales, the commission on both sales at regular rates, all other charges due here under and incidental damages.
The terms and conditions contained herein supersede the terms, conditions and guarantees on our website.
You agree to receive future communication from Period Americana regarding auctions and items that may be of interest.
Buyer's Premium
There will be a a combined buyer's premium and Invaluabel/AuctionZip listing fee of 23% added to the hammer price of each lot and it will be considered part of the total purchase price.
Payment
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, check, money order and PayPal. Period Americana will email an invoice to you following the auction with a link to make payment online. We accept payment processing through Invaluable/AuctionZip (through their third-party vendor, WePay). We reserve the right, per AuctionZip/Invaluable terms, to automatically charge the credit card you supplied upon registration four (4) days following auction invoicing. Please note that we cannot accept credit card payments over the phone; you must use the online link to make payment.
Check or money order payment may be made to our mailing address. Please contact us to arrange bank wire transfer. We reserve the right to hold merchandise until payment has been verified through our bank, typically two weeks.
If you choose to pick-up your item or arrange shipping outside of Period Americana, this must be communicated prior to payment in order to have that charged removed. Otherwise we will include shipping and handling in the final billed amount and arrange for shipping.
There are no refunds. All items are sold "AS IS, WHERE IS" with all faults. All sales are final! Items cannot be returned.
Shipping Terms and Rates
Most items will be shipped in-house at the cost of USPS Mail plus a small surcharge (few dollars) to cover packaging materials and labor. Large items will be packed and shipped through UPS (UPS Store, Saugus, Massachusetts, (781) 558-1642). After invoice payment, we will transport your items to the shipper. They will contact you directly to collect payment, pack and ship your items.
DOMESTIC RATES: With some exceptions, the minimum DOMESTIC postage and handling charge is $9.99 which includes USPS Priority Mail with tracking. The exceptions are smaller items such as postcards, pinbacks, certain documents or snapshots. For these smaller items that can safely fit into a regular envelope, the cost of shipping is a flat $4.00 for up to 8 ounces which includes USPS First Class Mail without tracking.
INTERNATIONAL RATES: With some exceptions, the minimum INTERNATIONAL postage and handling charge is $22.00 for First Class mail and $39.00 for Priority Mail. The exceptions are smaller items such as postcards, pinbacks, certain documents or snapshots. For these smaller items the cost of shipping starts at $6.00 and varies according to weight.
We can work with you on other methods as well. It is the buyer's responsibility to pay all fees associated with shipping and packing. All property should be removed from our premises no later than 5:00 P.M. of the 30th business day following the end of the auction. Unless prior arrangements have been made items not removed by the specified time will be charged storage and handling fees of $10.00 per item per day until removal. Please note that removal deadlines are strictly enforced.
Sales Tax
For bidders in Massachusetts, the appropriate sales tax is added to the purchase price We are happy to accept Massachusetts Resale Certificates.
Condition of Merchandise
Merchandise is sold "As-is, Where-is." Please ask questions before bidding.
Contract
Place a bid only if you're serious about buying the item. Once we accept your winning bid, you have entered into a legally binding contract to purchase the property bid on.
