ENGLISH GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER NINE-BASKET CENTERPIECE / EPERGNE, featuring a cast stand with ovoid holder at top, having four hooks at the top tier, and four pegs at the end of four looped foliate arms, all raised on four openwork shell feet, presented with original large central basket, seven original hanging baskets of four small-sized and three larger-sized, and a replaced sterling silver larger-sized basket by Howard & Co. of New York City, NY (active 1866-1937), each basket having reticulated sides and a feathered scroll rim, each hanging based with hinged twist wire bail handle. Each except replaced basket impressed with an unidentified "I[pellet]K" maker's mark in a shaped cartouche, possibly for John King, and a lion passant hallmark for sterling fineness, stand and large central bowl also with two other hallmarks of a crowned leopard's head city mark for London and a "K" date mark for 1765, replaced basket with "STERLING" and maker's marks. Total weight: 68.93 ozt. Circa 1765; replace basket late 19th/first quarter 20th century. 15" HOA; stand without baskets 11 1/4" H, 16" WOA.

  • Condition:

    Good to very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including nicks, dents, bending, splits, repairs, and/or slight worn spots to raised decoration, pieces lacquered on 1/11/2013 having spots and areas of flaking, lifting, and losses of lacquer.
