Very Scarce Late World War II Canadian Long Branch No.4 MKI Sniper Rifle with Lyman Alaskan Scope and R.E.L. Scope Mount This is a late WWII Canada sniper rifle as manufactured by the Long Branch Arsenal of Ontario in 1945 that is designated as a C No 32 TP sniper rifle. It was a late war design that was never issued during the war and used a new side mounted scope mount and base designed by the R.E.L. (Research Enterprise Limited) company of Canada that was fitted with a Lyman Alaskan commercial scope. These were produced in early 1945 and were intended to capitalize on the use of the easy to acquire commercial Lyman scopes with a better designed and less complicated scope mount in lieu of the original standard British issue No. 4 Mk1 (T) set up. The rifle itself is a standard Canadian No 4 MK1 that was manufactured in 1944. Receiver side wall: marked "No.4 MKI*/LONG BRANCH/1944", and the buttsocket is stamped "ENGLAND/74L0293". It has the standard wartime milled components, such as the barrel bands, and trigger guard with the correct matching bolt. The redesigned base is actually retained with only four small screws and two taper pins with an angled male dovetail head. The mount has two locking levers on the side (like a G&H M1C mount) with a corresponding angled female dovetail that is fitted with a commercial 2.5 X Lyman scope. The scope tube has the standard four-line commercial markings followed by Alaskan/4537S and it has a commercial post and crosshair reticle. The side of the mount is numbered "74L0176" (non-matching). The rifle is fitted with a fixed blade front sight and the correct milled MKI pattern folding rear sight. The rifle is fitted with the proper walnut forend, top two handguards and buttstock all correctly marked with Canadian subinspector and or "C" proofmarks. The buttstock is fitted with a raised walnut cheekpiece with a blued steel buttplate. Included with the rifle is a set of unmarked leather commercial lens caps. Manufacturer: Long Branch Model: No 4 MK1 BBL: 24 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 303 British Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 74L0293 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Excellent with 95% of the blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall with cycling wear on the bolt body.
