[AMERICANA] Levi Bartlett (1763-1828} noted American physician, surgeon, son of Josiah Bartlett who signed the Declaration of Independence for New Hampshire. Levi followed his father into the medical profession, establishing a practice in Kingston, New Hampshire, and becoming an eminent citizen of the town. Among other appointments, he served as a justice of the peace, Kingston postmaster, and lieutenant colonel commandant in the 7th Regiment of the New Hampshire militia. Dr. Levi Bartlett was the eldest son of Gov. Josiah Bartlett. he practiced medicine in Kingston and in the adjoining towns, and soon acquired an extensive practice, and was frequently called many miles from home in consultation. He was a skillful and successful surgeon, and performed many important operations. He frequently represented Kingston in the Legislature, and for several years was a member of the Council, and Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. But being of a studious and metaphysical nature, he preferred the quiet pleasures of private life to the care and turmoil of the political arena. Offered here is a rare manuscript page approx. 7-1/4 x 12 in. On one side he pens about 34 lines [unsigned] titled FEDOURACY. On the other side he has written 16 lines [unsigned] titled THE AMERICAN GOVT. Provenance: Estate of Josiah Bartlett, Kingston, NH. Accompanied by a few printed pages talking about the Bartlett Estate Sale in 1989; plus an old postcard showing statue of Josiah Bartlett. Rare!.
