  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: LeRoy Neiman (1921–2012) was an American artist best known for his bold, brightly coloured, expressionistic paintings and prints capturing sporting events, nightlife, and celebrity culture. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, he studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later taught there while developing his signature loose, gestural style using vivid palettes and dynamic brushwork. Neiman rose to prominence in the 1950s and 60s through his association with *Playboy* magazine, where he illustrated the "Man at His Leisure" feature, depicting glamorous scenes of bars, casinos, and social clubs much like the tavern scene in this work. He became widely popular for his energetic depictions of athletes, boxing matches, horse racing, and Olympic events, often working as an official artist for the Olympic Games on multiple occasions. Neiman's prolific output of serigraphs and limited-edition prints made his work highly accessible and collectible, and he remains one of the most commercially successful American artists of the 20th century, recognized for capturing the vibrancy and movement of American leisure and entertainment culture.
