Two European Antique Pistols -A) Engraved and Carved Flintlock Pistol with Lazaro C. Marked Barrel Two European Antique Pistols -A) Engraved and Carved Flintlock Pistol with Lazaro C. Marked Barrel The three-stage barrel has a spurious "LAZARO C." marking as well as a brass blade front sight, "wedding band" transitions, ribbed breech, and "B" marked on the tang. The lock and other fittings have small amounts of engraving. The stock has some irregular Baroque raised relief carving and a horn forend cap. The trigger guard has a very low profile and a "71" marking on the tang. The ramrod is absent. Pistols with false Lazaro Cominazzo and similar markings were common in the period due to the renown quality and accuracy of the Brescian gunmakers and were discussed in period essays. The overall design suggests it originates from in or near Austria.
