LARGE MEISSEN FIGURAL GROUPING, 19TH C.
Comprising a large Meissen porcelain figural grouping of The Capture of the Tritons, modeled by Johann Joachim Kändler (1706-1775). Exquisitely hand-painted in luminous polychrome tones. Underside with blue underglaze cross swords mark, incised model number 639, and impressed number 79. Height 12.5 inches (32cm).

Provenance:
The lifetime estate collection of the late Dr. Boris Frid (1930-2017) and Dr. Germaine Frid (1932-2025) Palm Springs, California. See introduction to catalog.

  • Condition: Overall good condition. The main figure's middle fingertip is missing, there are two aquatic plants that are missing the tips, and one has been reattached. The frog shown on the base at center is missing right hand. Otherwise, UV blacklight examination reveals no other apparent restorations or repairs.
