Large 62-Page Book of Tattoo Designs by James Ho [Folk Art - Korean War]
(Hong Kong, ca. 1958)
An exceptional book containing sixty-two [62] pages, or thirty-one [31] double-sided sheets, of hand-drawn tattoo flash art by pioneering artist James Ho, Hong Kong, ca. 1958. Most uncolored. Ink and colored pencil on paper. One sheet with a pin-up design with "Ho" repeated in the dress pattern, and another design dated 1958.

James Ho is widely regarded as the patriarch of Hong Kong tattooing. According to tradition, he established Hong Kong's first permanent studio, Rose Tattoo, in 1946, shortly after WWII. Ho did a brisk business tattooing U.S. troops during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and took on several apprentices to keep up with demand. These include now legendary tattoo artists Pinky Yun, Swallow, Ricky Lo, and Benny Tsoi. Ho's son, James Ho, also apprenticed at Rose Tattoo.
