A collection of family photographic records and ephemera primarily associated with the Knapp family of Northeast Ohio, spanning the late 19th through the mid-20th century. The collection includes two albums and several loose photographic items. The primary item is a Victorian-era padded photograph album. The exterior is bound in brown textured fabric with a large, ornate embossed gilt and celluloid-style centerpiece featuring floral scrollwork surrounding an oval miniature portrait of a woman in 18th-century costume. The album features gilt-edged pages and a decorative brass-tone metal clasp. The interior contains window-style pages with elaborate embossed designs intended for cabinet cards and cartes-de-visite. A pencil inscription on the front flyleaf reads: Samuel and Emma Knapp. The second album is a personal snapshot notebook dated 1917. It is bound in black cloth-covered stiff boards with a pasted paper label on the front cover. The label is hand-inscribed: Mrs. W. D. Knapp, Barberton Feb. 27. 1917, 434 1/2 W. 2nd St. The interior contains silver gelatin snapshots pasted to the pages, featuring handwritten captions such as Nellie and Claude and mary. The collection also includes several loose photographs and card-mounted portraits. These items include an oval cabinet card of an infant in a white christening gown, a group family portrait mounted on gray cardstock, a mid-20th-century glossy black-and-white print of a two-story American Foursquare-style residence with a period automobile, and a portrait of two young girls seated in a chair. One card mount is printed with the location: Akron, Ohio.
