  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: José Unda (1948–Present) is an esteemed abstract expressionist whose career spans more than six decades. A member of the "Cuatro Mosqueteros," he first gained prominence in 1969 by participating in the "Anti-Salon," a seminal event that transformed Ecuadorian artistic modernity. Over the years, Unda has exhibited in ten countries—including a notable 1990s group show with Ray Mead of the Painters Eleven—and his work is held in prestigious collections such as that of Italian billionaire Luciano Benetton. Today, his art is featured periodically in galleries across the Americas and Europe, reflecting a unique global perspective that blends his Latin American roots with cosmopolitan philosophical themes. Working predominantly with mixed media on canvas and paper, Unda employs a sophisticated range of acrylics, oils, pastels, and pencils, often using custom-made tools and spray techniques to execute his vision. He organizes his output into thematic series, each characterized by a harmonious blending of Oriental philosophies and indigenous symbolism. For the discerning collector, his work serves as a form of visual therapy, offering endless signs and symbols intended to invite deep contemplation and balance.
