World War II Johnson Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle This is an fine example of a late production Model 1941 Johnson semi-automatic rifle. After the attack on Pearl Harbor the USMC acquired many of these rifles from the Netherlands Purchasing Commission as a war expedient measure and later used them in the early stages of the war in the Pacific, eventually being replaced by the M1 Garand rifle. The right rear side of the receiver of this rifle is stamped with a small asterisk over "CRANSTON ARMS CO", indicating that it was originally accepted by the Netherlands purchasing commission. They had a parkerized metal finish with a two-piece walnut stock. They have several unique features, such as a 10 round rotary magazine and a quick detachable/removable barrel. The rotary magazine allowed the Johnson rifle to be quickly reloaded with single or five round stripper clips in between battles. Unlike the M1 where you had to eject the entire remaining clip to reload a new fresh clip. The detachable barrel was very desirable by the Marine Paratroopers and Raiders because it allowed them to store the disassembled rifle in a short jump bag. The top of the receiver is marked with the four-line Johnson Automatics Company markings followed by the model markings, caliber and company address over serial number "A1301". The face of the front barrel support of the barrel is correctly stamped "30-06/41" with the rear barrel lug and side of the barrel both stamped "0815F" and then "30-06", with no other markings. The bolt is stamped with the number "3899". The right side of the rear sight is stamped "METERS" with "M2" stamped on the left side. It is fitted with the original two-piece smooth walnut stock with a checkered steel buttplate. Manufacturer: Johnson Automatics MFG Co Model: 1941 BBL: 22 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 30-06 Finish: parkerize Grips: Serial Number: A1301 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Very fine as arsenal refurbished with a medium dark gray parkerized finish overall all the metal surfaces with the breech bolt correctly still in the white. The buttstock and forend are both in excellent condition having a nice dark oil finish overall showing minor/light handling marks and or scratches on the sides in some areas. A very nice looking WWII Johnson Model 1941 semi-automatic rifle.
