Japanese ukiyo-e color woodblock print depicting a dramatic kabuki theater scene with two actors engaged in a moment of confrontation. One figure, dressed in a red robe and holding a large paper umbrella, restrains another actor wearing a striped garment and holding a lantern pole. The composition captures a dynamic moment typical of kabuki drama, with expressive facial features and exaggerated movement
Architectural elements including a wooden gate and lantern help frame the action, while vertical red cartouches identify the characters or roles. The lower portion of the sheet bears a publishers seal and artist signature consistent with prints produced by the Utagawa school, the dominant ukiyo-e studio of the Edo period. Works of this type were widely produced to depict famous kabuki actors and memorable scenes from theatrical performances
The print demonstrates the bold outlines, theatrical poses, and narrative storytelling characteristic of mid-19th century Japanese woodblock prints

Measure 14 1/2"in H x 10"in W not framed
