Desirable Signed and Dated Japanese Kai-Gunto Naval Sword Measuring 36 inches in overall length with a 25 1/2 inch blade showing a fine primarily straight hamon and attractive grain set into a copper habaki. The fittings are traditional for the pattern, with a thick round brass tsuba, cherry blossom themed decoration and a black lacquer finished saya with dual suspension bands and remnants of an old label. The tang has a single mekugi-ana, bearing a Showa date on the left side and the signature "Yoshu Hojoju Hiro Masa" on the right. Born as Torio Kamematsu in 1908, by 1943 he was a certified Army Smith with four students beneath him, earning multiple distinctions.
