East Asia, Japan, Edo to Meiji period, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A collection of brass and copper cast ornaments for tobacco pouches known as maekanagu, and sword grip ornaments known as menuki, with repousse motifs and attachment pins on the verso, and a medallion disc - 15 pieces total. This is a great variety of types - birds, leafy fruit branches, horses, Buddha or Immortal figures, and a woman under a blossoming branch. Menuki are petite attachments meant to be displayed behind the cotton handle wrappings of a traditional Japanese swords. Size 1.55" Diameter (3.9 cm)
