Ca. 100 BCE - 250 CE. Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco culture. A standing pregnant woman whose broad, planted stance carries an air of unshakeable physical authority - arms extended slightly from the body, knees bent, as though she has just risen or is about to move. Her rounded abdomen and bare, modeled breasts announce her condition without ceremony, the body treated as a plain statement of generative fact rather than an occasion for adornment. A painted skirt wraps her lower body, its surface decorated with sweeping diagonal stripes in red-brown on a warm buff ground - the garment's casual elegance a reminder that West Mexican figurine makers were attentive to the social markers of dress even when the torso above went unclothed.

A flat, visor-like headdress or hair arrangement crowns the head, small coiled ear ornaments flank the face, and the features - heavy-lidded eyes, broad nose, a mouth set in the faint suggestion of a smile - wear the composed, inward expression common to the finest Jalisco figural work.

The hollow body retains a small opening at the crown, characteristic of the shaft-tomb tradition of ancient Jalisco, where such figures accompanied the dead as companions or ritual surrogates in the afterlife. Standing pregnant females of this type are understood as embodiments of fertility and continuity, their upright posture distinguishing them from the seated variants and perhaps implying a more active or processional ritual role.
