JACKSON POLLOCK (1912-1956), ATTRIBUTED TO, OIL AND ENAMEL ON CANVAS

Dimensions:

Image size: 104.5 x 75.5 cm. All measured values are approximate.

Provenance and Authenticity:

This painting is presented in the manner and style associated with Jackson Pollock, one of the defining figures of the Abstract Expressionist movement and the originator of action painting. Executed in oil and enamel on canvas, the work demonstrates the energetic drip techniques, layered gestures, and improvisational visual structure that established Pollock as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. The composition reflects the spontaneous physicality and complex rhythmic organization commonly associated with his celebrated paintings of the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Signature:

Jackson Pollock

Description:

The composition unfolds as an expansive field of energetic dripped, poured, and splattered pigment distributed across the entire canvas surface. Vibrant passages of green, black, red, yellow, white, and gray intersect through a dense web of sweeping gestures and rhythmic trajectories, creating a visual experience defined by movement and spontaneity. Rather than focusing attention upon a single image or focal point, the painting invites the viewer to engage with the entire surface simultaneously, allowing the eye to travel continuously through overlapping layers of color and line. Variations in density, scale, and direction generate an extraordinary sense of depth and dynamism, while the physical traces of the artist's actions remain visible throughout the composition. The result embodies the improvisational energy and gestural immediacy that define Pollock's most iconic action paintings.

Historical significance:

Jackson Pollock revolutionized modern painting through the development of his drip technique, transforming the act of painting into a performative process in which movement, gesture, and physical interaction with the canvas became central artistic elements. His innovations were instrumental in the emergence of Abstract Expressionism and helped establish New York as the international center of contemporary art during the postwar era. Pollock's works remain among the most influential achievements in twentieth-century art history and continue to inspire artists across multiple generations and disciplines.

Valuation:

Works presented in the manner of Jackson Pollock continue to generate strong international demand, particularly examples featuring energetic all-over compositions and complex networks of gestural paint application. Paintings exhibiting dynamic chromatic relationships, layered surfaces, and convincing examples of action painting aesthetics remain highly desirable among collectors of postwar American art and Abstract Expressionism.
